I've been prepping for 20 or more years now and all of my gear, though co-located, is generally in disarray and badly in need of organization and consolidation into "go" boxes (totes in my case). We live in a house close to my work but my bug-out site is 40 miles away. If I had to leave in a hurry, I would start tossing stuff into my vehicle and end up forgetting half of what I really needed. So far, I have several categories in mind: communications equipment, first aid supplies, pioneer tools, outdoor cooking utensils, ammo, electronic equipment, and survival library. I will keep you posted as the work progresses.
I need to do the same thing.
